The Regent Theatre has been and continues to be home to many world renowned theatre productions including Disney’s The Lion King, We Will Rock You, and Singin’ in the Rain.

REGENT THEATRE HISTORY
The Regent Theatre was opened in 1929, its lavish opulence at 191 Collins Street embodying the glorious fantasy and escapism of Hollywood, right in the heart of Melbourne.
The theatrical and cinema entrepreneur, Francis W Thring, head of Hoyts Theatres, was responsible for the Regent Theatre’s construction and it was built under his personal supervision.

The James Morrison Orchestra
World renowned trumpet virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist James Morrison headlines a stellar cast featuring some of Australia’s finest musicians and singers in this bold, brassy and dynamic musical refurbishment of some of the greatest No. 1 hits of the past 30 years.
Featuring special guest Doug Parkinson . The King of Australian rock is hard not to notice - his voice is part of our rock heritage, his physique imposing, and his stage presence holds your attention in a vice-like grip. He is a true Australian national treasure, one of our great voices and musical foundations.
Add a show-stopping performance by the musically sensual Monica Trapaga arguably the most versatile female entertainer in Australia today, supporting vocals by the three sisters of swing, Tiara, and the exciting and versatile sound of the James Morrison Orchestra, this show promises something for everyone.
The music repertoire has been masterfully sculptured by James Morrison with enthusiastic and considerate input from his guest stars to enthral the audience with an audio showcase of hallmark songs from many of the greatest performers of modern times. The Show celebrates the works of such musical icons as Dizzy Gillespie , Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland, through to the passion and soul of Ray Charles , Joe Cocker, Aretha Franklin and Westside Story.
With his charming and larrikin manner, James Morrison is looking forward to having some fun with the Orchestra, the performers and the audience and promises to include a few surprises during the evening to make the show even more special.

CATS IS BACK!
Finally Cats, the best-known and best loved musical the world has ever known, returns to Melbourne for 3 weeks only from 6 March, 2010.
Cats is quite simply a phenomenon. With a magnificent musical score composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, including the poignant hit song 'Memory', an imaginative set, inspired choreography and stunning costumes, Cats is a brilliant song and dance spectacular not to be missed.
Cats first opened in London in May 1981 to rave reviews and went on to win a record-breaking number of awards worldwide including two Olivier Awards for 'Musical of the Year' and Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Musicals', and seven Tony Awards. It holds the record of the longest running musical in the West End history having played for 21 years.
In addition Cats played 18 years on Broadway and has been presented in over twenty-six countries, in about three hundred cities, in ten languages.

PHYSICAL ACCESS
Main entrance in Collins Street has 14 steps with 6 evenly
spaced handrails, a landing break, then 5 more steps up
to the entry doors. The box office is located to the right
at the top of the first set of steps. The merchandise
stall is to the left. There are glass doors across the
width of the entrance, which are kept open when a performance
is on. There is an entrance foyer that leads to the Stalls
foyer bar and auditorium.
Accessible Entrance
Arrivals will be welcomed by the venue Concierge, and
will be directed to the Accessible Entrance.
AUDITORIUM
Access to the Stalls is on both the left and the right
of the rear foyer. The Stalls area is raked. There is
greater than usual space between rows, giving patrons
a large amount of legroom. There are two central aisles
and two side aisles.
The only access to the Dress Circle and Grand Circle
is via several sets of large staircases. Please note that
the marble staircases date back to the theatre’s
construction and are slightly worn on the edges. This
makes them rather slippery and patrons should take extra
care with footing in these areas. Seating in the Dress
Circle and Grand Circle area is stepped and there are
no handrails.
PLAZA BALLROM
Accessible
Entrance
For patrons attending functions at the Plaza Ballroom,
the accessible entrance is from Collins Street. There
is a door to the left of the main entrance, which is attended
by a staff member. He or she will direct you to a lift,
which will take you to the Plaza Ballroom foyer. There
are ramps with handrails that lead you into the Ballroom.
There are 5 steps down into the Ballroom area or there
is a portable ramp in the back right corner.FACILITIES FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS
Eight wheelchair users can be accommodated in the main
room (ballroom). Seating is removable so patrons can sit
next to companions. Book wheelchair seating direct with
the Princess Theatre Box Office on (03) 9299 9800. Phone
the theatre on the day before the selected performance
to ensure that a staff member will be on hand to let you
in via the theatre side door. For patrons attending functions
at the Plaza Ballroom call the Sales and Events department

Patrons with difficulty negotiating
steps are advised to book seating in Stalls area, as there
