REGENT THEATRE HISTORY
The Regent Theatre was opened in 1929, its lavish opulence at 191 Collins Street embodying the glorious fantasy and escapism of Hollywood, right in the heart of Melbourne.
The theatrical and cinema entrepreneur, Francis W Thring, head of Hoyts Theatres, was responsible for the Regent Theatre’s construction and it was built under his personal supervision.

After your red carpet arrival, you make your way up the grand marble staircase to the entry into your own private area of the theatre for the evening. The Regent Theatre Box Office is open 1.5 hours prior to the commencement of a show and half an hour after a show commences. Additional Box Office opening hours are dependent on individual show times.

Pre-paid tickets can be collected from the venue Box Office within the said opening hours or from 1.5 hours prior on the day of the performance.

PHYSICAL ACCESS
Main entrance in Collins Street has 14 steps with 6 evenly spaced handrails, a landing break, then 5 more steps up to the entry doors. The Box Office is located to the right at the top of the first set of steps. The VIP Window is to the left. There are glass doors across the width of the entrance, which are kept open when a performance is on. There is an entrance foyer that leads to the Stalls foyer bar and auditorium.

Arrivals will be welcomed by a venue staff member out the front of the venue, and will be directed to the Accessible Entrance.
AUDITORIUM
Access to the Stalls is on both the left and the right of the rear foyer. The Stalls area is raked. There is greater than usual space between rows, giving patrons a large amount of legroom. There are two central aisles and two side aisles.
The only access to the Dress Circle is via two sets of large staircases. Please note that the marble staircases date back to the theatre’s construction and are slightly worn on the edges. This makes them rather slippery and patrons should take extra care with footing in these areas. Seating in the Dress Circle area is stepped and there are no handrails.

For patrons attending functions at the Plaza Ballroom,
the accessible entrance is from Collins Street. There
is a door to the left of the main entrance, which is attended
by a staff member. He or she will direct you to a lift,
which will take you to the Plaza Ballroom foyer. There
are ramps with handrails that lead you into the Ballroom.
There are 5 steps down into the Ballroom area or there
is a portable ramp in the back right corner.

Book wheelchair seating direct with the Regent Theatre Box Office on (03) 9299 9500. Access is via the elevator in the Box Restaurant (next to the theatre). Please see a Marriner Theatres staff member outside the Regent Theatre to gain access.
PLEASE NOTE: There is no lift access to the Dress Circle at the Regent Theatre.

CHILDREN RULES
MARRINER THEATRES BABES-IN-ARMS POLICY
Most productions are considered to be unsuitable for children under the age of two years. If taking your child under two years of age into the theatre, please be aware of the following concerns:
- Tripping hazards, row spacing, stairs, steep rakes and the lack of light in the auditorium during a performance can be particularly hazardous when carrying an infant within the theatre.
- Production elements such as loud music, bright lights pyrotechnic stage effects and show content can cause distress to infants.
- The potential for disturbance to other patrons by crying or restless infants.
Parents choosing to visit the theatre with children less than two years of age are asked to liaise with the theatre's front-of-house staff.
Please be considerate of other patrons in the theatre. If your infant is causing a disturbance, we ask that you temporarily remove the infant from the auditorium.
As the safety of children, parents and other patrons is of high importance, these concerns are brought to your attention for your consideration so that you and all other patrons can enjoy the show in a safe environment.
PLEASE NOTE: Patrons attending with a child under 2 years must purchase an aisle seat in the stalls as this is the safest option. It is recommended that you book through the Princess Theatre Box Office by calling (03) 9299 9800.
For children attending a performance, there are a limited number of booster seats available at the usher’s discretion.

Generally there are no age restrictions. However, for licensed areas a valid form of ID is required; learner or driver’s license, passport, proof of age card, keypass.
